We
Returned to Congo in 1998 after our evacuation and furlough. We
settled in the capital of Kinshasa. Their were many places, and
needs but the Lord opened a ministry for us This opening was to work with a
struggling church. A small group of believers floundering in the mass confusion of many churches and false doctrines
here in this vast city.

In 1994 the estimated population in the city
of Kinshasa was 4.2 million people.
Today it is estimated at 6.8 million people. This growth is due to the civil war that has battered this country for more than
eight
years. Many people have fled to the capital looking for a better
life. |

We spent
many a Sunday and Saturday afternoon going on evangelism and visitation.
At the time the church was meeting under palm branches strung across
walls that they had managed to build up to about 3 feet. If it rained there was no way to
continue the service. It was very frustrating! But slowly the church
sacrificially began to build. Our Church is in a low income part of town
(As many towns are). The highest paid person in our church gets
about
$50.00 a month. With many others families barely making ends meet with
$10.00 a month. |
|
They started to give special
offerings so as to begin building. (One sack of cement cost $10.00) They
were able to build to window level. At which time we helped them to
complete the building. In 2000 We were able to put the roof on the
building, with the help of other missionaries and our own people.
At the same time as the
building of the church walls, we had started the constitution of the church
(On the 5th of May 2002, the constitution was completed and accepted,
and members were officially voted in).

They have grown to date to a membership of 75.
